“Ann” is a short movie, the debut of its producer and director, Patryk Rola, its screenwriter, Ewa Sakłak, as well as all its actors.
This is the story of a teenager living in a small town, Kraśnik, Poland. Her life is like that of any other girl—she has her hobby and friends; however, slowly, into her everyday life sneaks the desire to strive for perfection, and her loved ones’ remarks begin to significantly influence her self-esteem. As a result, she establishes a close relationship with Ann (personified anorexia). The viewer observes the progressive hate that the girl develops for herself. The movie presents the protagonist’s changing mindset and the course of her illness; it also warns against certain activities of the media promoting a specific canon of beauty, and draws attention to the consequences of words and the way in which those can affect the immature psyche of a teenager.
