At its peak, Glenrio featured various businesses, including cafes, motels, and gas stations, catering to the needs of those traveling along the iconic highway. However, as the interstate highway system developed in the 1950s, traffic diminished, leading to the towns gradual decline. By the late 20th century, Glenrio became largely abandoned, serving as a poignant reminder of the heyday of Route 66 and the transient nature of American towns. Today, it stands as a historical site, attracting visitors interested in the nostalgia of the past and the stories of the American road.
