There he premiered as a cigar-chomping leader of an elite U.S. Army unit unit called the Howling Commandos. Injured by two explosions, he went on to lose the vision in his left eye before being saved by The Infinity Formula. Dramatically slow his aging, he ascended to the role of a CIA agent and spy, before becoming the leading agent of the fictional espionage agency S.H.I.E.L.D.
