Growing up I was always told that my country (USA) is the most democratic place in the world, that all countries look up to us for our democracy. After living in Poland for several years I was pleasantly surprised to find that Poles are extremely proactive in their own democracy and that they beyond capable of effecting change. With this in mind, I was rather shocked and offended when former US president Bill Clinton said that for Poland "democracy is too much trouble” and “they want Putin-like leadership, ‘just give me an authoritarian dictatorship and keep the foreigners out’. Regardless of what Mr. Clinton's thoughts on the current Polish government may be, I don't believe it on ANY level reflects how Poles feel about democracy. Whats more, if the Polish people don't accept it I believe they will make change.
